"Something wonderful has happened in Charlottetown," wrote theatre critic Nathan Cohen in 1965 about The Charlottetown Festival. From late May to mid-October, this Festival of laughter and music features Canada's finest performers, designers, playwrights, composers, and directors in a professional showcase of musical theatre and comedy.

Since its inception, The Charlottetown Festival has sought out and commissioned over 66 new Canadian musicals. The most popular and successful of The Charlottetown Festival musicals remains Anne of Green Gables - The Musical. The reading public has long treasured the works of L.M. Montgomery. On July 27, 1965, The Festival brought Montgomery's most popular character, "Anne Shirley", to the stage in a musical by Don Harron, Elaine and Norman Campbell, and Mavor Moore.

Since its premiere, over 2-million people have seen Anne of Green Gables - The Musical at The Charlottetown Festival.
